Search Engine Themes

{PAGE0}Theme technology is the new paradigm shift for search engine optimization (SEO). Many search engines are already using theme driven technology in the way they store and organize their databases. The keyword selection portion of the SEO process is no longer just about keyword effectiveness (KEI), keyword density, and keyword positioning on your page. Those components have not become irrelevant at all; its just that the process has become much more complex. Content relevance is now also being determined by methodologies from a number of scientific disciplines and technologies, for example:

· Semantic text analysis
· Distribution analysis
· Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data mining technology
· Term vector database technology.
· Information Theory

An understanding of linguistics, statistical calculus, and artificial intelligence will be indispensable to achieving successful search engine rankings in the near future. If this is starting to make you nervous, good; that means
you're paying attention.

An explanation in non-technical terms:

He said, She said - The artificially intelligent (AI) software looks at what you say on your web page, what others say on other web pages, and who's talking about (or linking to) you on hyper-linked web pages. It’s like a rumor mill.

The Interrogation Room - Now, the AI software is going to analyze what everyone is saying. Like a detective interrogating multiple witnesses, the more all the testimonies cohere and the more what you said lines up with the cohering testimonies, the more likely it is that you are talking about the same things they are and therefore you will be included in that group. Imagine that a detective is given 100 witnesses and, just by listening to their various testimonies, has to figure out how many different crime cases were represented among the whole group and which witnesses belonged to which crime case. That's similar to what the AI software
behind search engine themes does.

Rain Man and John Nash - Idiot savants are a group of humans that are incapable of learning, writing or reading, yet they have unlimited access to specific, accurate knowledge in the fields of mathematics, music, and other precise areas. Now the irony of an idiot savant is that this group of individuals does not acquire knowledge by learning as the average human does. They mysteriously know explicit, exact, correct information. Once the interrogation is finished, the AI software works like an idiot savant and automatically learns extremely complex and sophisticated relationships and patterns between all the words in all the pages it has collected (Don't try this at home without AI supervision). It doesn't experience meaning the way humans do, but it learns all these relationships well enough to know which pages ought to be grouped together because they talk about the same thing (and the more you give it, the better it gets!). A genius mathematician may say something like, "the numbers just speak to me." Well, certain words and combinations of words speak to this AI software and enable it to learn how to group pages together. The trick, or secret, is knowing which words and combination of words speak the most. If you knew that, you could be the linguistic equivalent of Rain Man or a John Nash (as depicted by Russell Crowe in A Beautiful Mind). You would see what they see.

What can an internet marketer do to address this? Can we figure out this algorithm?

Reverse engineering begins with the product and works through the design process in the opposite direction to uncover as much information as possible about the design
ideas that were used to produce a particular product.

Much of Search Engine Optimization is actually a form of reverse engineering. SEO specialists analyze search engine result pages (SERPs) and then the documents represented on those pages to examine the varying frequency and positioning of keywords. When you do all of this with the purpose of approximating a search engine’s ranking algorithm so that you can optimize the frequency and positioning of keywords on your own page, you are engaging in reverse engineering. This is also the case when the inbound and outbound links of pages are examined with regard to their quantity and quality so that you can determine your own link building strategy. Reverse engineering is the quintessential methodology of search engine optimization.

The Impossibility of Reverse Engineering AI processes behind Themes

Many of the processes involved in the organization of web pages into themes by search engines are nonlinear functions and processes. These nonlinear processes are irreversible and, therefore, not amenable to reverse engineering. In fact, many of the fundamental elements of Chaos Theory also underlie these processes (try reverse engineering the weather). This means that the only way to meet this new challenge in SEO is by using a process that incorporates the same AI technologies used by the theme driven search engines. Some things are amenable to reverse engineering and some things just aren’t. You can reverse engineer a bicycle by taking it apart and examining the configuration of its parts. However, you cannot reverse engineer a cake.

{PAGE1}You can’t unbake a cake to figure out what the ingredients and the proportion of ingredients are of which it is made. However, by sampling the cake and making judgments as to some of what is in it, you can choose ingredients and bake another cake based on these judgments and keep doing this until the result is as close as possible to the original cake. In order to do this, you must have the following:

1. A good means of sampling the cake,

(e.g. a well trained pallete)

2. Excellent background knowledge for making the requisite judgements,

(e.g. lots of experience with baking and with various kinds of cakes)

3. The energy and patience for all of the trial and error required,

(e.g. lots of time and supplies)

4. An understanding of how cakes are baked in the first place,

(e.g. training in the culinary arts)

Engaging in a similar project to approximate the AI processes in theme technology used by search engines is what would be required to ascertain precisely what is going to appear most relevant under a search engines context analysis process. In the very near future, getting the edge on your competition will require this type of analysis and research for the most competitive rankings. The future is now for a number of
search engines because they use this technology already. You need to know precisely which words are most important to support your keyword(s). Remember these simple
formulas:

ALL the words in your content = the context for your Keyword(s).

Keyword(s) + the Context = the Theme of your content.

Good Keyword(s) + the WRONG context = the WRONG Theme (LOW RELEVANCE).

Good Keyword(s) + the RIGHT context= the RIGHT Theme (HIGH RELEVANCE!).

Context is King!! Focus on making your context as rich in content with words that convince the search engine that your keyword(s) are really what your content is all about. Theme Master is the perfect tool to help you achieve this.
