16 Ideas For Top 10 Ranking

This article is being written to help small web site owners. Most of us learned everything the hard way by first deciding to start an online business. Most of us started out thinking about the product we would market rather than how it would get marketed.
While this may be the proper way, the marketing time often far exceeds the product time. For example, a site selling sales training materials may spend a few months developing the training material and several years getting to a top 10 ranking.
Top rankings in the search engines is all about getting links to your site from other relevant sites. For example, if your site is about real estate, the site linking to you should be similar. The more similar and higher page rank, the better the link value (supposedly).
There are not enough articles written about how to go from idea to top 10 ranking, so here is one list of ideas. While this list may not be enough for certain keywords, it will deliver results.
- Develop a website with great content - and lots of it
- Find a good programmer - the web site guru is an excellent source for talent
- Put the keyword in the url - for example, put the word salestraining as part of the url
- Use the keyword many times on each page - home page might be sales training, another might be prospecting.
- Place the key words in the meta tags
- Purchase a semi automated product to submit to directories - it is cheap and works. One is called Directory Submitter. There are many others. Do this yourself rather than pay for automatic submissions to cheap directories.
- Purchase a semi automated product to submit articles - also cheap and works. One is called Article Submitter. There are many others. Also do this yourself.
- Start a blog. If you havent heard of them, go to the sites blogger or wordpress and read about it.
- Sign up to social sites such as Digg and Furl and post your web pages and articles.
- Visit blogs with high PR and post comments that allow links
- If you dont know how to program, type into your browser the words basic html and read it.
- Always post text links when possible. For a novice, find an example and simply add your own site.
- Hire a link builder to build one way links to your site. Again, guru is a good site. Elance is another.
- Write good press releases and submit by hand to good PR sites.
- Put google page rank tool on your tool bar so you can automatically check the page rank of sites
- Use free sites to check incoming links to other sites, such as those in the top 3 spots. Find these tools by typing backlink checker into your browser.
Although this is simple stuff to many people, thousands of others have had to stumble on it.
