Searching With Google

Ok, so you’ve just heard this awesome song by two radio hosts on Triple J and you think to yourself, that’s such a good song I’m going to find it on the net so you type in what they call themselves, which happens to be Adam and Will. At google you type in Adam and Will but I know that your not going to get anywhere because of the following reasons:

-Adam and Will is a phrase
-Will is a word as well as a name
-will is a common word so it won’t be searched for
-and is automatically included in your search so there is no need to put it in, apparently

Solution:

Google has a feature of searching for phrases and to do this you type your phrase inside these thingys: ""

For example "Adam and Will". The first two results I get are perfect; the first comes from australianmusic.info and the second from their homepage.

Perhaps what you are looking for isn’t a phrase but it needs to have one of the words in the search like Star Wars Episode I. I won’t be included in the search; you will probably end up getting every Star Wars episode ever made in your search. I know that this is the example from google.com but I can’t think of anything myself.

Solution:

Use something known as Boolean searching. This is simply putting a '+’ in front of necessary words to get accurate results. Here is an example if you can’t comprehend what I have just said.

Star Wars Episode +I

That should be enough to get you google ignorant users out of trouble for a while.

*Note* These tips will most likely work on any search engine but google is about 10,000 times better than any other site so if you aren’t using google, perhaps you should be asking why not.
